U.S. Committee of the Blue Shield

U.S. Representatives of

ICBS Pillar Organizations

At the time of its founding, USCBS was required to have the support of the national representatives of the four Founding Organizations of the International Committee of the Blue Shield (ICBS):  ICA (International Council on Archives), ICOM (International Council of Museums), ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites), and IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions). A fifth organization, the CCAAA (Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations), joined ICBS in 2005, after USCBS applied for formal recognition as a Blue Shield National Committee.

American Library Association (ALA)

ALA is the oldest and largest library association in the world, providing association information, news, events, and advocacy resources for members, librarians, and library users. Founded on October 6, 1876 during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the mission of ALA is to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.

Society of American Archivists (SAA)

Founded in 1936, SAA is North America's oldest and largest national archival professional association. SAA promotes the values and diversity of archives and archivists. We are the preeminent source of professional resources and the principal communication hub for American archivists. SAA enables archivists to achieve professional excellence and foster innovation to ensure the identification, preservation, and use of records of enduring value.

International Council of Museums - US (ICOM-US)

The ICOM National Committee for the United States is ICOM-US.  National Committees are the mechanism by which museums and the museum professionals join ICOM. For US museums and museum professionals, joining ICOM-US is the gateway to accessing ICOM’s specialized committees, resources, and other member benefits.

US National Committee of International Monuments and Sites (US/ICOMOS)

US/ICOMOS is one of numerous national committees forming a worldwide alliance for the study and conservation of historic buildings, districts, and sites. It is the focus of international cultural resources exchange in the United States, working to share preservation information and expertise worldwide. It also highlights and interprets the unique American preservation system: the partnership between private organizations and federal, state, and local governments, and the cooperation between the academic community, professionals and civic volunteers.
